10 Easy Tips for Great Lips

1. Prime your lips
Start by using a primer to give you a lasting effect and will fill in any lines or imperfections you have in your lips. See our Motives Lip Lock,
2. Avoid Too Much Sparkle
Having too much shimmer can sometimes make you look seem cheap. Look for lipsticks with a creamy finish. Light reflection should come from moisture in the formula, not metallic pigments.
3. Be Bright and Be Right
Choose a bright shade based on your lips’ natural color not your skin tone. Women with pale lips look best in cheer red or coral; for naturally reddish lips, try hot pink, orange, or cranberry; for dark lips red and burgundy are ideal.  Try Motives Rich Formula Lip stick in Red Coral if you have pale skin, Hot Summer Nights for reddish lips, and Venetian Red for darker lips.
4. Look Good Nude
The best nude lip color is only slightly brighter or deeper than your skin tone. If you have pale skin look for something that has a hint of pink in it; like Motives Rich Formula Lipstick in Natural. Those with yellow or olive undertones or darker skin look best with sand beiges like Motives Rich Formula Lipstick in Flesh.
5. The Vampire Effect
Blue or black based shades that are too dark can be severe which causes you to look older and possibly even scary. Look for lipsticks with a berry undertone instead like Motives Rich Formula Lipstick in Berry Sexy.
6. Forget the Liner
Liner is no longer a must; today’s lipsticks don’t bleed. To enhance your cupid’s bow or add symmetry, use Motives Lip Liner that best matches your lips, not your lipstick.
7. Be Soft
Careful application is good; however, clinical precision is not. Just smudge the border of your lips slightly to achieve a softer lip.
8. Start in the Middle
When applying any shade of lipstick, start at the center of your lips and blend color out towards the corners of your mouth.
9. Don’t Over Do It
Prevent a strong lipstick shade from looking too heavy by swiping it on just your bottom lip, pressing lips together and using your finger to distribute the color over your mouth.
10. Don’t Forget to Blot
To make you lipstick last longer, apply it straight from the tube, blot with a tissue and then swipe it on again. This will create a base and the second coat will then add shine and more coverage.

The Glow or Matte Look

See How to Create Both!

Learn how to create both.
Glow like JLo or matte like Kim Kardashian?

Now you can create either look regardless of your skin tone. Using contouring for your face will give you this. Why is contouring important? Contouring your face gives the illusion of a more perfect appearance. By contouring your face, you can hide structural imperfections, give your face balance and highlight features with a Glowing Look.
What areas are common for contouring?
The most common areas to contour are cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. Contouring these areas gives the appearance of a balanced face. You can also contour eyes and lips to make them look bigger or smaller, fuller or slimmer.
One of my most favorite products in the Motives line of cosmetics is the Motives Shape and Sculpt Duo.  It is a double-sided compact with light and dark shadows that you need to highlight and contour like a pro!  It is a two in one product that glides on softly and feels like velvet to your skin.
