Red Wine Compound Activates Gene Needed for Healthy Cells – ‘Could Help Humans Live until they are 150′

New drug being developed using compound found in red wine ‘could help humans live until they are 150′
I found this very interesting. Imagine living that long, and being able to get all that you wanted accomplished while having good health along the path of longevity.

This is exciting research and many of us already take resveratrol and or have red wine in our daily diets. Read on so you can decide what you think. I’ve shared my view point at the end of the post, so feel free to share what you think after getting the facts.

Scientists at Harvard University believe that drugs containing resveratrol, found in red wine, can combat aging and prevent diseases including cancer and diabetes.

The new drugs are synthetic versions of resveratrol which is found in red wine and is believed to have an anti-aging effect as it boosts activity of a protein called SIRT1.

Drugs that could combat aging and help people to live to 150-years-old may be available within five years, following landmark research.
Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline has been testing the medications on patients suffering with medical conditions including cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
The work proves that a single anti-aging enzyme in the body can be targeted, with the potential to prevent age-related diseases and extend lifespans.
As each of the 117 drugs tested work on the single enzyme through a common mechanism is means that a whole new class of anti-aging drugs is now viable, which could ultimately prevent cancer, Alzheimer’s disease and type 2 diabetes.
Genetics professor David Sinclair, based at Harvard University, said: ‘Ultimately, these drugs would treat one disease, but unlike drugs of today, they would prevent 20 others.
‘In effect, they would slow ageing.’
The target enzyme, SIRT1, is switched on naturally by calorie restriction and exercise, but it can also be enhanced through activators.
The most common naturally-occurring activator is resveratrol, which is found in small quantities in red wine, but synthetic activators with much stronger activity are already being developed.
Although research surrounding resveratrol has been going on for a decade, until now the basic science had been contested. Harvard scientists said they have settled a debate over whether a compound found in red wine activates a gene that keeps cells healthy.

Red wine or Resveratrol supplements is a great way to help fight the diseases and keep  blood balanced as well as helping with cholesterol.  If you are not sure which supplements have the highest quality of resveratrol contact me so I may share with you what I know and works.

In my opinion, there is no need to put synthetics into the body, when nature has already provided that for us. The Resveratrol is found in grapes and of course red wine. So go ahead and enjoy that glass of wine!

Remember, to take care of yourself is not just about what you use on your face, but what you put into the body to fuel it properly so that it can continue in strength, health, and beauty.

Product Spotlight: Isotonix Multivitamin

 Product Spotlight: Isotonix® Multivitamin

The month, our Health & Nutrition team highlighted the benefits of Isotonix® Multivitamin and its importance for supporting proper body functioning, including an informative and exciting webinar hosted by Elizabeth Benton yesterday.

In case you missed out yesterday, our weekly Product Spotlight breaks down the importance of not only taking a multivitamin, but taking one that is isotonic. We hope this information reminds you why you should take your multivitamin and help you show others why they should, as well!

Let’s peddle backwards first and review why vitamins and minerals are important.
Vitamins help the body maintain normal metabolic function, convert food into energy, help growth and body repair, build immunity, synthesize hormones, and activate enzymes for proper body function. Vitamins need minerals to perform these actions.
The body uses minerals to activate enzyme reactions within the body, support electrical transmitters, regulate water and electrolytes, and metabolize the three major dietary nutrients: proteins, carbohydrates and lipids.
In a nutshell, vitamins and minerals are essential for basic survival.
Where do we get vitamins and minerals?
Thousands of years ago, before the days of manufactured supplements, humans found sufficient nutrients, vitamins, and minerals in their diet from plants and foods grown around them. However, over time and especially in recent years, the high demand for production and preservation and the industrialization of farming have decreased the amount of vitamins and minerals found in whole foods.
The industrialization of agriculture which allows farmers to produce more plants faster and that last longer gives plants less time to absorb nutrients naturally. The ingredients in fertilizers interfere with the natural absorption process as well as contribute to soil-mineral depletion.
According to The Journal of HortScience, the average vegetable found in today’s supermarket is anywhere from five to 40 percent lower in minerals, proteins and vitamins compared to those harvested just 50 years ago.
Why take a supplement?
With the prevelance less nutrient rich foods on the market, it is becoming more and more  important for humans to fill in the gaps, which is where a multivitamin supplement comes in. Many supplements contain 100 percent or more of the vitamins and minerals the average human body needs.
So why Isotonix®?
Isotonic refers to when the fluid consumed is concentrated the same as the body’s fluids, allowing for proper cell metabolism and effective transportation through cells. In comparison to other forms of consumption, isotonic consumption delivers the maximum amount of nutrients to the bloodstream faster. Taking supplements in pill or capsule form can take between 40 minutes to four hours, while isotonic delivery can happen as fast as five minutes. In the time it takes to digest a pill or capsule, the body loses vitamin actives and traps micronutrients.
Isotonix® Multivitamin has 100 percent of many of the vitamins needed for proper nutritional balance and even exceeds 100 percent in some nutrients.
If you love your Multivitamin and wondered how to maximize the amount of proper nutrients or what to recommend to anyone looking to achieve optimal health, we suggest the Daily Essentials Kit, which contains Isotonix OPC-3®, Isotonix® Multivitamin, Isotonix® Activated B-Complex and Isotonix® Calcium Plus. 5 Tips for Staying Healthy This Winter

Posted from Market America blog (parent company of Motives ) on

Cold weather, shorter days, and the lure of comfort food can make staying healthy during winter a challenging task. If you find yourself feeling sluggish, sleepy, or suffering from a case of the sniffles, it’s probably time to incorporate some new healthy habits into your daily routine. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered! Here are 5 simple tips to help you stay healthy this winter.
Get some (quality) sleep
While it’s important to get enough sleep, it’s also important to get quality sleep. Unfortunately, certain activities, foods and drinks before bed can keep you from getting the high quality Z’s you deserve. Here are the top offenders to be aware of:
Laptop and TV screens: the artificial light these gadgets produce has been shown to suppress the production of melatonin in the brain, so make it a habit to turn power these down at least an hour before bedtime.
High fat, high protein and spicy foods: eat any of these before bedtime and you’ll likely be tossing and turning for hours.
Alcohol and caffeine: it goes without saying that caffeinated beverages can keep you up at night, so put a lid on all caffeinated drinks at least 6 hours before bed. Alcohol on the other hand may make you feel sleepy at first, but research shows that consumption before bedtime can disrupt sleep and lead to middle of the night awakenings.
Get Moving
Let’s be honest: cold weather is more likely to inspire nights cuddled on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa than vigorous cardio activity. But that doesn’t mean you have an excuse to take a hiatus from your exercise routine! Get motivated to move this winter by switching it up. Do you miss running outside with your friends in the summer? Try signing up for group exercise classes to get you through the winter. Sick of doing the same boring routine at the gym? Sign up for a one-on-one personal training session to get new ideas for ways to get fit. Consider any type of exercise to be a form of mild torture? Make exercise fun by trying any one of these at home dance video games, no coordination required! Regardless of what you choose, just make sure that you MOVE!
Take your Isotonix ®
Whether you’re partial to Isotonix® Vitamin D with K2, OPC-3®, or Beauty Blend, it’s more important now than ever that you remember to take it! Dry winter air is a breeding ground for all sorts of germs, so make sure to support your health during cold and flu season by incorporating Isotonix supplements into your morning routine.
Drink more water
Water helps keep you energized, your skin hydrated, and regulates almost all the functions of your body. So why aren’t you drinking more of it? This winter, make it a habit to drink more H2O by replacing at least one sugary or caffeinated beverage with water, keeping a water bottle on your desk at all times, and sipping at least 8 ounces with every snack or meal.
Show germs who’s boss
Here’s a scary fact: cold and flu-causing germs can live on surfaces for up to 48 hours! To keep yourself from getting infected, take five minutes each day and wipe down every surface you touch with disinfecting wipes. Make sure you don’t forget about your keyboard, cellphone, briefcases and handbags; these have been shown to harbor more bacteria than a toilet seat!

To stay healthy year-round, all it takes are small adjustments to our daily routine. What are your favorite tips or tricks for staying healthy in the winter?

Dr. Oz touts skin health benefits of Pycnogenol

We already know Dr. Oz loves astaxanthin. Now he’s on a new quest: to tell everyone about the wonders of Pycnogenol for achieving younger-looking skin.
In a recent segment on his show, Dr. Oz discussed how Pycnogenol – an extract from the bark of the French maritime pine tree – can help your skin cells regain their moisture to give you a smoother appearance.
“Could [Pycnogenol] be the secret to looking seven years younger?” Dr. Oz asked his audience. “I researched it, and the consensus is yes.”
The secret, Dr. Oz says, behind Pycnogenol’s superior anti-aging effects is its “incredible antioxidant and anti-inflammatory powers” that help boost the body’s hyaluronic acid levels by 44 percent. Hyaluronic acid, which plays an important role in tissue hydration, lubrication and cellular function, “is the primary agent that keeps skin tight and wrinkle-free,” Dr. Oz says.
“That means that in about 12 weeks of taking [P]ycnogenol, you may see smoother skin, a reduction in fine lines, and more supple skin,” Dr. Oz says on his website.

To longtime Market America customers, the benefits of Pycnogenol are no secret. Since 1995, Market America has be providing millions with the only isotonic form of Pycnogenol in the world in Isotonix OPC-3. Since then, Isotonix has been proud to include its isotonic form of Pycnogenol in other nutritional supplements, including:
  • Isotonix OPC-3 Beauty Blend, formulated to promote skin elasticity, support healthy collagen production, replenish essential vitamins and minerals for the skin, and provide the skin and body with improved antioxidant defenses;
  • Might-a-Mins Spectrum Isotonix OPC-3, which provides a strong antioxidant defense which is especially beneficial for children who need neurological, metabolic, or digestive support;
  • Prime Joint Support Formula by Isotonix, endorsed by Basketball Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, the only joint supplement on the market to deliver three primary bone & joint ingredients – glucosamine, Pycnogenol and hyaluronic acid – in isotonic form;
  • and Isotonix Champion Blend Plus, endorsed by basketball superstar Carmelo Anthony, which helps the body needs to preserve your muscles with essential nutrients, keep your body’s defenses up with powerful antioxidants, and provide you with a huge boost of energy from great vitamins.
While other supplements on the market can claim to have Pycnogenol, the superior Isotonix delivery system ensures that its ingredients – including Pycnogenol – are absorbed by the body in the most efficient, effective manner. Without the need for fillers and binder found in most pills and tablets, Isotonix nutritional supplements deliver maximum results in each and every serving.
