[New post] How to Take a Detox Bath-Right After any Holiday or Anytime

detoxbath

Epsom salts! You can get it at any drug store, walmart, cvs, etc.  and is very inexpensive and comes in bags or cartons (looks like milk cartons). I like both the brands, Mr. Teal's and Walmart's generic brand.  If you prefer to shop on line, while you are doing your other shopping many offer no shipping.

Why a detox bath?

This soothing, quiet time is important to help in eliminating the toxins as well as absorb the minerals and nutrients from the bath water. It will provide you  a relaxing and refreshed feeling as well as a spiritual cleansing. When you detox the body's skin it also helps with detoxing any negativity you carry.

Episom salt is magnesium sulfate and it helps to restore the body's magnesium which is depleted when we are under stress (hypertension). The sulfate flushes the toxins and helps supports the joints which is why you feel so relaxed and less tense afterwards with a refresh, or renewed energy!

How to Prepare a Detox Bath:

1. Make sure you can devote to your self at least 40 minutes.
  •  The first 20 minutes are said to help your body remove the toxins, while the second 20 minutes are for absorbing the minerals in the water.
2. Fill your tub with comfortably hot water.- Add Epsom salts (aka magnesium sulfate).
  •   If you weight 100 lbs and up, add 2 cups or more to a standard bath.
  •   Add 1 to 2 cups or more of baking soda (a.k.a. sodium bicarbonate). Baking soda is known for its cleansing ability and even has anti-fungal properties. It also leaves skin very soft.

Optional soothing ingredients to the Detox Bath -

  • Aromatherapy oils.  Lavendar and Ylang, Ylang are 2 options to add. Great fragrance and can be very therapeutic . There are so many others  as well as those that will assist in the detoxification process (tea tree oil or eucalyptus). Around 20 drops is sufficient for a standard bath.
  • Fresh herbs.  Add mint leaves (warming), lavender flowers (soothing), chamomile (soothing), or anything else that suits your mood.

What to Expect from a Detox Bath

Remember, when you detox the body of impurities, it means your body will sweat. This should start withing the first few minutes.  If it's too hot, add a little cool water, just enough to where it's still warm and it is comfortable and soothing.

After your 2nd 20 minutes you want to slowly get out of the tub carefully.  Your body has been working hard and you may get lightheaded or feel weak and drained. On top of that, the salts make your tub slippery, so stand with care.

After the Detox Bath

  • Drink plenty of water. Any time your body detoxes (after this type of bath, a massage, or chiropractic work, for example), you need to flush out toxins. If you don’t, you will likely feel sick afterwards.
  • Afterwards, you may want a loofah or vegetable bristle brush. This can help to stimulate the lymphatic system, which can aid with the release of toxins. Use long, gentle sweeping strokes aimed toward the heart.

Treating yourself to a detox bath with Epsom Salt is a great way to detox the body, cleanse the mind, relax and rejuvinate especially if you've had a stressful day, week, or right after any holiday time, where it was more hectic than anticipated!

Friday Findings

Instead of posting a variety of different stores and items I decided since we are getting closer to spring and what that brings to us, 'ie. fresh air, storing winter clothes to make room for new spring clothes, cleaning the windows, general house cleaning..well, you get the picture. We can't forget that the real house we live in needs a cleansing also. Wouldn't you agree?
Take a look at this detox kit. I have used it in the past and it works!
