How to Color Chalk Your Hair

What????  Yes, this is really a cool beauty trend and style for today's hair. This new technique is very popular and offers a lot of pastel chalk colors to choose from as well as different looks.

Hair color chalk So what is it ? Chalking is a great way to add temporary color to your hair.  You can create stylist streaks, or focus on one color in a particular area or blend it all with multicolor when braiding the hair.

There's no worriers for it's not at all like permanent hair color products. Hair chalk is a great solution for non permanent coloring that makes a personalized statement about you!  Such a fun way to try one of Hollywood’s hottest hair trends! Here’s a few tips for learning how to chalk your hair!

Here's what you need:
  • Wear an cape or old shirt to protect your clothes OR put a towel around you and clip it together.
  • Gloves
  • Soft pastels but not oil pastes for it may stain your hair
Here we go...

1. Dampen the hair where you would like the colors.
2. Rub hair color chalks on the damp section of hair. You can twist the hair to distribute more color.
3. For longer lasting colors, straighten or curl the hair using heat.
4. Once you have achieved the color you want, just brush and style to get the perfect look

If you are applying the chalk on dry hair, then wet the pastel chalk first and then rub on your hair.
To remove the hair color chalk, shampoo your hair and the colors will fade. Easy!

I would love to hear what colors you have chalked your hair!

5 Tanning Methods

Knowing Spring is soon approaching and we can put the heavy sweaters and jeans away and pull out (as well as go shopping) our spring and summer clothes, it's also time to think about safely tanning. There are so many shades of the golden tan, that it has come  down to being a science to achieve the look you want and what looks best for you.

Here a 5 tanning methods for you to consider that can give you a golden soft glow that you so desire:

1. Indoor Tanning

Indoor tanning has become wildly popular over the past few decades due to it not being dependent on the sun’s availability and given it is a produced light, the health risks from using a produced light are far fewer than laying out under the sun. But beware you can still burn! Make sure that if you are fair skin and have no base line of a tan at all, that you only spend 5-12 minutes for the first couple of times and use tanning lotion that is designed for a tanning bed. Tanning salons should have ample products for you to choose from and they should be able to advise you to which product will protect your skin while start to give a base of a tan safely. You can also ask how recently they just changed the bulbs and take that into consideration.
outdoor tanning
2. Outdoor Tanning

Whether you're getting your tan from laying out, going to the beach, pool, boating, or what ever opportunity gives you that fun time in the sun, it's crucial that you be very careful! There is so much documented research on the affects of the sun and our skin that we don't want to go out thinking nothing can do us harm, when 5-10 or even 20 years down the road, you kick yourself for not taking advantage of using products that could have saved your skin. So whether indoors or outdoor tanning it's best to do it all in moderation and with proper sun screen with the best tanning lotion that will allow a good natural tan to occur. Remember, do not try to get your tan for an event or trip in one or 2 exposure times. Sunburn and skin peeling is not a good thing and could possibly lead to health risks. Plan it out and give yourself enough time to do it right. Remember you only have one body of  skin and can't go an replace it if it' doesn't suit you! No pun intended!

Some good beach tanning tips are to take a quick dip in the water prior to tanning. The moisture from the water will help expedite the sun’s rays which will save you time in achieving your perfect tan. In addition, the water itself will reflect the sun’s rays which also will expedite the tanning process, so you will want to keep that in mind as well as to not over tan.

3. Airbrush Tanning

Airbrush tanning has become a hot trend and popular in the beauty industry due to the fact that it is the fastest way to a perfect tan. A Customized Airbrush Tan can cost anywhere from 30.00 and up. This type of tanning is spespecifically designed to your goals and choosing the best color formula. Bottom line is that you will get the most realistic tan possible. You can usually purchase packages that will help bring down the initial cost and gives you the opportunity to go back when the first time starts to fade.

This technique of tanning is great because there is no  risk of extended exposure that tanning beds and or outdoor light can have. This is simply a light tone being airbrushed onto your body and giving you the tanned appearance you are wanting. This method is especially great during the colder months of the year when outdoor tanning may not be an option.

4. Spray Tanning Booth

This is not a spray tanning booth! The difference between a spray tanning booth and an
airbrush tan is simple.  The airbrush tan is done by hand while the spray booth is done automatically.

5. Bronzing Lotion
Bronzing Lotion is a lightweight, non-oily formula that promotes a natural, golden tan for your body without sun exposure. Choose your desired shade by building your color gradually without streaks and discoloration on knees, elbows and knuckles. This is very popular and quick to use and provides your skin with a natural glow while you moisturize and hydrate with the right type of ingredients.

Why a Low Glycemic Diet is Best

LowGlycemicWayofEating

A Low Glyemic lifestyle is scientifically proven that it works!

This has got to be one the biggest health concerns that many of my clients (personal training) over the years have asked during our initial consultation and I always tell them-

Basics are best - which are whole foods- proteins, vegetables, fruits, fats and process foods in their most natural form. (natural peanut butter, whole or ground flax seed, farm raised fish, Ezekiel bread Bread - just to name a few ) .But take it one step further - eat low glycemic.

Food Shopping
This is not a fad diet but a change in lifestyle. In order for this to work you must understand first what it means and then how to incorporate it. This is a lifestyle change, period! It's perfect for your weight loss plan that will work!

The glycemic index (GI) is a ranking of carbohydrates on a scale from 0 to 100 according to the extent to which they raise blood sugar levels after eating. Foods with a high GI are those which are rapidly digested and absorbed and result in marked fluctuations in blood sugar levels. Low-GI foods, by virtue of their slow digestion and absorption, produce gradual rises in blood sugar and insulin levels, and have proven benefits for health. Low GI diets have been shown to improve both glucose and lipid levels in people with diabetes (type 1 and type 2). They have benefits for weight control because they help control appetite and delay hunger. Low GI diets also reduce insulin levels and insulin resistance.
healthy-eating

Let's break it down: High glycemic foods increase blood glucose  rapidly, resulting in high insulin levels. Insulin is a "storage" hormone. It not only promotes the absorption of sugar, but, because there is already enough free energy in the bloodstream in the form of glucose, insulin inhibits cells from release in their stores of fatty acids. Fatty acids are made of store fat tissue. See where this is going? So when your insulin levels are high, the body can not utilize body fat as an energy source. This is why you have to understand how the glycemic index and load of food is crucial for not only losing weight, but keeping it off as well as building muscle.

Some of the traits of  HIGH GLYCEMIC eating:
  • Fluctuating of energy level
  • Weight gain
  • Not feeling satisfied after eating
  • Excessive food cravings
  • Increase of abdominal fat
  • Easy onset of fatigue
What you can expect to see differently w/ a Low Glycemic Lifestyle.
  • Weight loss and keeping the weight off
  • Consistently high energy levels
  • Improved Immune System
  • Feeling satisfied from eating

Research has shown when consuming balanced low glycemic meals maintains a consistent balance of hormone levels, thus the body functions at optimal health.

Basic Skin Care

When we understand basic knowledge about Skin Care, it allows us to take better care of ourselves and our skin. In this post I will address the 4 main skin types and how to take proper care so your skin is balanced, smooth and has a healthy vibrant tone.

There are 4 main skin types:

  • Normal
  • Dry
  • Combination
  • Oily
 NORMAL SKIN

This type is in good condition and has sufficient supply of sebum (oil) and water. Skin feels smooth, comfortable and gives a radiant appearance.

This type of skin type is best maintained with natural extracts that continues to sooth the skin. Young teens to those in early 20's when not exposing skin to the sun can actually maintain this normal skin long into their 20's and 30's.

DRY SKIIN

This type of skin lacks sebum (oil)  that lubricates the skin. This skin type will have small invisible pores, tight, rough skin that is thin, delicate and lackluster. This skin type NEEDS products that replace and replenish moisture as well as to help stimulate circulation giving the skin a healthy glow.

Dry skin needs proper moisturizers and treatments that support the skin on a cellular level.

COMBINATION SKIN

Combination skin has exactly what it means, both oily and dry areas on the face specifically nose, forehead and chin, while possibly the cheeks being dry.

This type of skin needs products to balance it and that means minimizing oil and delivering hydration. Advance anti-aging and acne skin care should be part of the skin care regime.

OILY SKIN

This type of skin is caused by an over production of sebum (oil). You will see medium to large pores, breakouts and clogged pores as a result.

This skin type needs products that control and minimize oil secretions, as well as to fight bacteria that leads to breakouts.

There is another category that many woman experience and that is SENSITIVE SKIN.
Signs are:
  • thin and delicate
  • is very reactive
  • red or blotchy
The skin is more fragile and may irritate from temperature changes, seasonal changes, skin care products, spicy foods or alchol.

Sensitive skin requires special attention and its recommended to consult your make up adviser.
Feel free to take our skin care analysis to better understand what you need.

What type do you have and how are you balancing your skin's appearance?

Quote for a Great Day Ahead....

Why indulge in negativity, when you use your positive energy for a better brighter day?

What do you do to get yourself back on a positive track?
Listen to your favorite music?
Read a book?
Go for a walk?
Play with your cat or dog (or both)?
Close your eyes and think of someone special?

What ever you find that gives that good feeling inside (they call that Love, by the way!) take a couple of moments and use that energy to get you back on track and make the rest of the or evening better for yourself and those around you.

Have a fantastic day everyone!

DYI Pineapple Mask

The pineapple is an incredible fruit and offers so much in healing and maintaining good health both inside and out! Learn more about the benefits of eating fresh pineapple from earlier today's posts.

The enzymes in the pineapple are used as a skin treatment to remove dead skin cells and reduce the oil in the skin helping to fight acne.

This will give you a healthy glowing skin with all natural ingredients.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 Large Pineapple slices
  • 3 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 Tbsp. All natural honey
  • Blender
DIRECTIONS:
 1. Slice the pineapple and place four large pieces in a blender. Pineapple is a gentle astringent which helps to close open pores

2.  Put 3 tbsp. of olive oil in a blender. Olive oil nourishes and moisturizes the skin. Unlike most common oils found in beauty products, olive oil will wash away clean.

3.  Place 1 tbsp. of natural honey into the mixture and blend until creamy. Honey will reduce any swelling or inflammation, helping to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles and can help to eliminate circles from underneath the eyes.

4.  Wash your face gently with warm water and pat dry. Apply the pineapple face mask evenly and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse again with warm water and gently dry your face with a soft towel.

There you have it, easy, simple and naturally designed to help your skin glow.

Remember, eating fresh pineapple provides antioxidants, vitamin C and help with inflammation as well as digestive issues. Enjoy!

Health Benefits of Pineapple-Why you should eat fresh pineapple

A simple Pineapple is one of those fruits that is packed with nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins. Being a member of the bromeliad family, it's extremely rare that bromeliads produce edible fruit. The pineapple is the only available edible bromeliad today and provides natural remedies to many ailments.

Did you know that it's considered a multiple fruit? One pineapple is actually made up of dozens of

individual flowerlets  that grow together to form the entire fruit. Each scale on a pineapple is evidence of a separate flower.

How to pick the best pineapple:
1.  You need to know pineapples stop ripening the minute they are picked. There is no special way of storing them will help ripen them further while the color is relatively unimportant in determining ripeness, it's the smell that determines how ripe it is.
2.  When it smells fresh, tropical and sweet, it will be a good fruit.
3.  When there more scales on the pineapple, the sweeter and juicer the taste.

Health Benefits: This is one of fruits that offer a sweet and exotic flavor, but it may also be one of the most healthful foods available today. Research shows that pineapple is valuable for easing indigestion, arthritis and or sinusitis.

  • The juice has an anthelmintic effect; it helps get rid of intestinal worms.
  • Pineapple is high in manganese, a mineral that is critical to development of strong bones and connective tissue. A cup of fresh pineapple will give you nearly 75% of the recommended daily amount.  It is particularly helpful to older adults, whose bones tend to be brittle with age.
  • Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme, is the key to pineapple's value. Proteolytic means "breaks down protein", which is why pineapple is known to be a digestive aid. It helps the body digest proteins more efficiently.
  • Bromelain is also considered an effective anti-inflammatory.  Regular ingestion of at least one half cup of fresh pineapple daily is purported to relieve painful joints common to osteoarthritis. It also produces mild pain relief.
  • In Germany, bromelain is approved as a post-injury medication because it is thought to reduce inflammation and swelling.
  • Orange juice is a popular liquid for those suffering from a cold because it is high in Vitamin C.
  • Fresh pineapple is not only high in this vitamin, but because of the Bromelain, it has the ability to reduce mucous in the throat.
  • If you have a cold with a productive cough, add pineapple to your diet.
  • It is commonly used in Europe as a post-operative measure to cut mucous after certain sinus and throat operations.
  • Those individuals who eat fresh pineapple daily report fewer sinus problems related to allergies. In and of itself, pineapple has a very low risk for allergies
  • Pineapple is also known to discourage blood clot development. This makes it a valuable dietary addition for frequent fliers and others who may be at risk for blood clots.
  • An old folk remedy for morning sickness is fresh pineapple juice. it really works! Fresh juice and some nuts first thing in the morning often make a difference.
  • It's also good for a healthier mouth. The fresh juice discourages plaque growth.
So now you have to good tid-bits to help with keeping yourself and loved ones in good health!
Oh and be on the look out for a special DIY Pinpineapple Mask that works!

How have you found Pineapple to help you?
