DIY Rejuvinate Your Skin w/ Coffee

Research shows coffee has many benefits for drinking as well as a topical for your skin to help tighten and rejuvenate. A study conducted in Korea found that the caffeic acid found in coffee grounds can significantly affect anti-inflammatory activity and skin wound healing. It is also believed that caffeine helps reduce fatty deposits has prompted some cosmetics manufacturers to start using it in their products. This formula is a great Anti-cellulite scrub as well.

Here's a easy DIY Coffee Scrub:

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups of coarse ground coffee (tightens and rejuvenates)
  • 1/2 cup raw sugar (exfoliates)
  • 3 tablespoon olive oil (natural moisturizer)
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in medium bowl. Rub the coffee mixture onto wet skin. Shower to rinse, then pat dry.

How to Prevent and Treat In-Grown Hairs and Red Bumps

Okay, this is not always a fun topic but none-the-less, it still exist and many need help with it! I found on Pinterest a great Q&A on the subject.

How can I avoid getting red, bumpy, awful ingrown hairs when my hair regrows after shaving or a bikini wax? It makes me self-conscious.

EXPERT
Daniela Ferri (Licensed Esthetician, Acne Specialist) answered
There are a few things you can do to actually prevent ingrown hairs from becoming a problem in the first place.

First, it's important to remember that ingrown hair problems are mostly caused by pressure and/or friction.  As someone who performs bikini waxing services almost every day all day long, I've seen the most intense ingrown hair problems occur during two fashion periods - low rise jeans and skinny jeans.  Why is this?

The skin reacts to being constantly rubbed and pressed on by creating something else for the offender to rub and press on instead. The nice, warm environment "down there" is a haven for bacteria that normally live inside pores which are now being swelled up from inflammation caused by the pressure and friction, so the bacteria thrive.  Sometimes excess oil production also comes into play to create a kind of slip leading to impactions of blackhead material, other times it's just inflammation creating swelling and nothing else.  In both cases, hair is prevented from growing out of the follicle properly.

Prevention comes in the form of properly cushioning the skin.  This means... hate to be the barer of bad news ladies... NO thong when wearing denim, tweed, twill or any other type of textured material.  It also means NO LACE and no mesh underwear.  E-VER.  There must be smooth, non-textured, 100% cotton underwear covering the entire affected area at all times.  Many of my clients have enjoyed a great deal of relief from their ingrown problems just by changing completely to boy cut, or boy short, 100% cotton underwear.

Treatment includes manual plus chemical exfoliation to loosen skin cells and impactions so hair can start to come out of blocked follicles, such as an acne face wash with exfoliating spa gloves.  Salicylic Acid gels or liquids can indeed be a bit drying.  Inflamed ingrown hairs benefit from the anti-inflammatory properties of Sal Acid, but again, the drying aspect can be a problem.  What I have found works well are these products, that I sell on my web site :

Step 1) The exfoliating spa gloves I mentioned before, using something like Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash or PanOxyl 10% BPO wash.

Step 2) an AHA lotion in conjunction with a Benzoyl Peroxide lotion, using the BPO first, OR, a cooling gel designed to calm irritation and redness while hydrating the skin so it releases dead skin cells more easily.

Step 3) After exfoliation and hydration, to really prevent as well as treat an existing ingrown hair problem, a revolutionary, anti-inflammatory, moisture absorbing body powder called FerroRosa FrictionFixTM is indispensable. This amazing powder is applied all over breakout areas before getting dressed each morning, and again before working out or sitting for long periods.  Inflammation and even itching is relieved, while skin is protected from friction and pressure by absorbing moisture and oil.  Also works great for razor burn.

What's the Best Way to Apply Liquid Foundation?

The best way to apply foundation is to use a Foundation Brush. You want to use a quality made brush from made from extra-soft taklon (cruelty free) which is  the finest synthetic bristles that gives you incredible control for an airbrush-like finish. This allows you  to evenly apply and blend your foundation for perfect coverage provide a smooth, even finish while minimizing product waste.

The extra soft taklon bristles are especially designed to pick up and deposit foundation on the face without soaking up the product, meaning you save money yearly on liquid foundation.

There are soooo many brushes on the market today, with a price range of under $10.00 to over $50.00

If you've never used a brush before I don't recommend going out and buying the most expensive one there is just because of the price or the name! Take a look  and compare. See the shape and how much of an angle there is. Ones with a soft angle allows you to gently get under and around your eyes with control versus those that are big and fat. Remember, you're going to have fondation on that brush and you want total control when applying and if the brush is too big you're going to waste your foundation.

I recommend that you don’t use your hands to apply makeup as this can add oil to your face. By using Foundation Brush, you can achieve a smooth, even finish with no waste, making your foundation last longer. Oh, and sponges and or wedges absorb more of the foundation so you have to keep adding more on it before you are done! What's the point in that???

You can use a foundation brush on several different types of  Foundation Products:
Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation
Ageless Renewal Foundation
Color Perfection Quad or
Custom Blend.

Healthy Dinner Menu for Your Valentines

Eating Healthy This Valentine’s Day: A Full Dinner Menu
Happy (almost) Valentine’s Day! Don’t you love how it creeps up, just when you thought you had your holidays covered? We trek a marathon of calories to New Years, then awaken with a firm resolve to leave the heavy dishes and cookies behind. We’re eating great, feeling great, and ready to win big in 2013 by entering the TLS Find Your Fit Challenge. Then, smack in the middle of February, the trick or treat of adulthood: Valentine’s Day.
Before you let the amass of chocolate and sugary candies take hostage of your healthy train, we have the perfect romantic Valentine’s dinner that keeps your diet on track and you and your honey — or just you! — from caving.
Drink: Persian Passion Tea
  • 1 cup organic dried rose petals, crushed
  • 10 whole green cardamoms, crushed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • Your favorite grey or black tea, prepared
Place all ingredients except tea into a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
Lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes, then cool completely.
Strain syrup and use to sweeten hot or iced teas.
Salad: Romaine Sweetheart Salad
  • 3 tablespoons Greek yogurt (to substitute for mayonnaise)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup chopped marinated artichoke hearts
  • 1/2 cup chopped hearts of palm
  • 1/2 avocado, chopped
  • salt
  • 1/2 pomegranate
  • 4 leaves romaine lettuce, from the heart
In a medium bowl, stir together the yogurt, mint and lemon juice. Add the artichoke hearts, hearts of palm and avocado and toss to combine. Season with salt.
In a bowl of water, peel the pomegranate to release the seeds; drain. Spoon the tossed salad onto the lettuce leaves and sprinkle the pomegranate seeds on top.
Main Dish: Pomegranate Duck
  • 1 pound boneless duck breast, skin removed
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1/4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (or 1 teaspoons of Almond Flour for a lower carb alternative).
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Preheat oven to 450°F. Heat the oil in a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Sprinkle duck with salt, then add the duck to the skillet until cooked brown on both sides. Place the duck in a small baking dish and roast in the oven.
While the duck is roasting, fry the shallot in a skillet at medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until fragrant. Add the pomegranate juice to the shallot and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cook the shallot and pomegranate juice until reduced by half.
Stir broth and cornstarch or almond flour in a small bowl until the it dissolves. Add it to the pan, bringing to a boil, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook, stirring, until the sauce is thickened.
The duck will finish roasting when it reads 150°F at the thickest part . After taking it out of the oven, let it rest for about five minutes. When the duck has finished resting, pour any accumulated juices into the sauce and stir to combine. Thinly slice the duck; serve topped with the pomegranate sauce.
You (and whoever else enjoys it with you) will adore this treat!
Side dish: Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus
  • ½ poud sliced Proscuitto
  • 12 spears asparagas
  • ½ package Neufchatel cheese (reduced fat cream cheese)
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spread prosciutto slices with Neufchatel cheese, then wrap around 2 or 3 asparagus spears. Arrange wrapped spears in a single layer on a medium baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes until tender. Easy!
Finally, for a simple finish, the Valentine’s Day staple: Chocolate Covered Strawberries
  • 18 wafers Dipping dark chocolate
  • 10 large strawberries
Rinse 10 medium to large strawberries, pat dry and set to side. Remove chocolate wafers and place in small glass bowl to heat in microwave for 20 seconds. Stir chocolate. Repeat until most of the chocolate is melted. Stir vigorously until smooth and glossy. Using a spoon, cover each strawberry in chocolate. Place strawberry on wax paper upside down until cool, approximately 2 minutes.
Whether you’re celebrating alone, with friends, or with a loved one, you can partake fully in the final winter holiday without the need for damage control later!

How to Apply False Eyelashes

There are so many good reasons to wear false eyelashes! Creating that alluring, sexy natural looking lashes it at the top of the list! False eyelashes will also make your eyes look bigger and fuller. For special occasions or photo shoots you can create a dramatic affect.

When shopping online or in the store for your false eyelashes

  1. Make sure you have options in styles that suit you best .
  2. Easy to apply and to remove
  3. They are reusable and durable
  4.  Gives you instant length and volume

The key is learning to put them on correctly, so no one will ever guess that they’re not yours! So practice until you are really comfortable and confident before you are planning on that special occasion.

Here's what you will need:

Scissors
Lash Adhesive
Eyelash Curler
Tweezers

How to put on False Eyelashes:

  1. Trim them to make them look more natural.
  2. Applying a thin line of black eyeliner before you apply lashes is a great way to make your lash application look seamless.
  3. Apply a thin line of Lash Adhesive along the band of the false lash. Let the adhesive set for a few seconds before you place the lashes on your natural lash line. Tweezers can be used for a more delicate touch.
  4. Press the lashes onto your lash line and hold for 30 seconds to a minute.
  5. Blend the false lashes to your own by using a Eyelash Curler and you’re your favorite Mascara.
  6. Make sure that you hold the false lashes to your lash line to ensure they stay put!
 Removing Them:

  1. Remember to gently pull false eyelashes when removing so they do not tear.
  2. After wearing, cleanse the lashes with warm, soapy water.
  3. Reshape and allow to air dry.
  4. Store in their original container to keep them in good condition.

How long can I wear False Eyelashes? If you are buying quality lashes they will last all day and night; however, it’s not recommended to sleep in them, as this could cause them to wear down and break quickly. Plus, since you don’t sleep in your make up why would this be any different?

Remember since you are investing in your time and energy to continue with your beauty regime, if you take care of them you will be able to reuse them many times.

After wearing them, simply cleanse the lashes with warm, soapy water. Reshape and allow to air dry. Store them in their original container to keep them in good condition.
I love our Motives Eye Lashes for they meet all of the criteria needed to simple look beautiful effortlessly. See what you think....

The Top 10 Superfoods for Gorgeous Skin and Hair

The secret to healthier hair and glowing skin? It's not in your makeup case. It's in your diet. Nutritionist Lisa Drayer, MA, RD, author of The Beauty Diet, says these superfoods will give you gorgeous skin and beautiful hair.

Blueberries

This low-profile berry was ranked number one in antioxidant activity by the U.S. Department of Agriculture compared to 40 common fruits and vegetables. The antioxidants in blueberries protect you from premature aging, so add half a cup to your yogurt or whey protein shakes.

Wild Salmon

Wild salmon -- not farm-raised -- is one of the best food sources for omega-3 fatty acids, which helps keep your skin supple and moisturized. Salmon also has selenium, a mineral that protects the skin from sun exposure. The vitamin D in salmon keeps your bones and teeth strong and healthy, too. You won't have a problem adding salmon to your diet since there are hundreds of ways to enjoy this beauty superfood. Try it grilled, baked with a salad, in sushi, or just with a side of green vegetables.

Spinach

This leafy green vegetable is rich in nutrients and antioxidants. Spinach is loaded with lutein, which keeps your eyes healthy and sparkling. Spinach is also a good source of vitamins B, C, and E, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Trade your lettuce for spinach, or saute spinach for a quick, healthy side asparagus.

Oysters

The jury's still out on whether oysters are really aphrodisiacs, but they are a good source of zinc, which aids in skin cell renewal and repair. Zinc also keeps your nails, hair, and eyes healthy. Who needs an aphrodisiac when you look and feel beautiful?

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are the best source of the anti-aging antioxidant lycopene. Surprisingly, lycopene in tomatoes is more easily absorbed by your body when it is cooked or processed, so make sure to stock up on canned tomato sauce, tomato juice, and ketchup with agave or no sugar ketchup.

Walnuts

You don't need to eat cupfuls of walnuts to enjoy their many benefits: smoother skin, healthy hair, brighter eyes, and strong bones. Get your daily dose of nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E by eating a handful by themselves or throwing some in your salad, pasta, or dessert.

Kiwis

This small, brown, fuzzy fruit is loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants, which keep skin firm, help prevent wrinkles, and are great for healthy bones and teeth. The antioxidants in kiwis also protect you from cancer and heart disease.

Dark Chocolate

We won't judge you if you keep a secret stash of chocolate in your purse or desk (or both). In fact, we recommend you do -- especially if you're willing to share. Dark chocolate helps skin stay hydrated and protects skin from sun damage, and contrary to popular belief, chocolate does not cause acne. Before you make a mad dash to Godiva or Ghirardelli, however, keep in mind that the best kind of chocolate has a high flavanol content and should be at least 60 percent cacao.

Yogurt

One cup of low-fat yogurt has more calcium than a cup of fat-free milk, which is great for your posture, nails, and teeth. Mix it with fruit or granola for a healthy breakfast or that essential midafternoon snack.

Sweet Potatoes

You should be eating this superfood more often than just at Thanksgiving. Sweet potatoes are packed with beta-carotene, an antioxidant that fights aging.
Hate them mashed? Try them cut up and roasted with herbs or onions for an easy, awesome side.
